Our Company

Corson was founded in 1902 in Gisborne and to this day remains New Zealand’s leading maize specialist.

Corson has nurtured the New Zealand maize industry, developing the first hybrid maize seed evaluations in the 1950’s – a process that ensures only the best maize is used in cropping – and a practice that is still used to this day. In the 1960’s, Corson founded the country’s first hybrid maize seed production, and in the 1970’s, we founded New Zealand’s first food grade maize milling plant.

The latter part of the 20th century saw a refocus and return to Corson’s core business as experts in the maize industry. In 2003, Defiance Milling in Queensland, Australia was purchased, making Corson the largest maize milling company in Australasia.

Today Corson continues to grow parent and hybrid seed in Gisborne, ensuring that our growers have the highest quality hybrid maize seed, and it’s likely the breakfast cereal you ate this morning, or the snack food that you’ll eat tonight, have been made from our maize products.
